What changes

WebP transparency is useful evidence—not vector geometry.

A WebP can keep soft antialiased edges and alpha transparency, but it is still a pixel grid. Vectorize separates its visible colors into paths and lets you judge the result.

    Transparent pixels help isolate the mark, while semitransparent edge pixels may create extra shades that need simplification.

    Use both preview backdrops to find missing white details, unwanted fills and edges that only fail on dark surfaces.

Preserve what matters

Treat transparency and compression separately.

  • Keep transparency enabled when the WebP already has a clean alpha channel.
  • Switch the preview background to reveal white artwork and pale edge fragments.
  • Reduce the color count when WebP compression creates near-duplicate shades.
  • Compare small counters, gaps and detached elements before accepting the trace.

Lossless WebP logos with flat colors are strong candidates. Photographic WebP files, translucent glows and continuous gradients are raster effects and will usually become many flat vector regions.
